The ledger was a personal diary kept by Sarah during the final months of her life.

As I flipped through the frantic, ink-stained pages, the horrific truth came to light: Sarah hadn’t died in a sudden car crash. She had suffered from an aggressive, terminal illness. Knowing Daniel’s volatile temper and financial instability, she had secretly gathered $300,000 in life insurance payouts and hidden them in trust funds specifically for Emily and Grace—locking the access codes inside this basement shrine before she passed.

Daniel had spent four years keeping the basement locked, gaslighting the young girls into believing their mother was still “resting” downstairs, while trying to hack into the trusts to clear his own gambling debts.
