“She doesn’t need to hand over anything,” a quiet voice said from the shadow of the back porch.
We all turned. Marissa was standing by the glass door, holding a small voice recorder in her shaking hand. She had followed us outside and heard every single word.
Graham’s cold demeanor cracked for the first time, his face going pale. “Marissa… let me explain—”
“You don’t need to explain anything, Graham,” Marissa said, her voice remarkably steady despite the tears streaming down her face. “I knew who you were three weeks ago. I found your family’s financial lawsuit filed against my father’s old company.”
She walked down the porch steps, standing right between Graham and the father who had abandoned her two decades ago.
“I let you play your role because I wanted to see how far you’d go,” Marissa said, pressing play on the recorder. “And every word you just said about extortion, debt transfer, and using me as collateral is recorded.”
