PART 2: The Note on the Porch

My trembling fingers unfolded the damp paper as the officer stood quietly on the porch, his cap held over his chest.

“Mom,” the handwriting read—scrawled in my eldest son David’s rushed, familiar slant. “If you’re reading this from an officer, don’t panic. We aren’t in danger. But four miles down the highway, we realized we couldn’t keep doing this.”

My breath hitched as my eyes scanned down the page.

It turned out my six children hadn’t forgotten me. They had coordinated a surprise, driving down from three different states to arrive at my house together in a rented passenger van. But four miles away from my street, near the old junction, they had pulled over to wait for my youngest daughter, Emma, whose flight had been delayed.

While sitting in the parking lot of an old roadside diner, David had opened his glove compartment to grab a phone charger—and found an old, faded envelope addressed to his father from fifteen years ago.

It was a legal agreement signed by their father before he left the country, transferring full legal ownership of his overseas investments into a private trust fund for the children… on the strict condition that they never contact him again.

What did the note reveal about their father? Continue reading Part 3 below to unearth the truth.
