The very next morning, I packed up Maya’s few belongings from her dark basement room and brought her straight to my apartment.
I hired a private legal representative to annul the divorce on the grounds of medical distress and non-disclosure of critical circumstances, restoring her status as my legal spouse so she could immediately be placed under my high-end corporate health insurance policy.
When Maya realized what I was doing, she tried to protest through her tears.
“Arjun, no… you can’t throw your life away for me,” she pleaded, holding my hands with her weak fingers. “You deserve a normal life. A healthy wife. Children.”
“I don’t want a normal life without you, Maya,” I said, kissing her forehead. “I failed you when our home went quiet. I let fear drive me away. But I am not leaving you again.”
I withdrew my entire life savings, sold my car, and petitioned the hospital board to fast-track her donor matching evaluation.
